Metro conducts emergency preparedness workshops
If you are a person with special needs, you may face extra challenges during an emergency. You should plan now so that you are prepared to take care of yourself – before, during and after an emergency. To help local residents with their emergency planning, Alabama Caregiver Training: Emergency Preparedness for People with Special Needs
workshops are being sponsored by the Alabama Emergency Management Agency (EMA) and county EMAs in Calhoun, Clay, Cleburne, Etowah, St. Clair and Talladega counties.

Alabama Caregiver Training was designed for people with special needs and their caregivers. People with special needs may have a physical, medical or mental condition that could affect their ability to prepare for an emergency or take protective action. You should plan for any special condition that could affect your ability to respond to an emergency. A caregiver may be a healthcare professional, family member, friend or neighbor who provides assistance to a person with special needs.

The workshop provides information about emergency preparedness for natural and manmade hazards. Training materials include a caregiver’s guide, a workbook and two 15-minute videos. The workshop and materials are funded through the Chemical Stockpile Emergency Preparedness Program.

Alabama Caregiver Training is available in Calhoun, Clay, Cleburne, Etowah, St. Clair and Talladega counties. Workshops are designed for healthcare agencies, community organizations, volunteer groups, and other groups who work with people with special needs. To schedule a workshop, contact Metro Services at 256.236.8642 or 800.263.0201. Visit www.alabamaspp.com for a training schedule.
